Lead Pastor - Steve Schmidt

Pastor Steve SchmidtAlthough Pastor Steve Schmidt was born in the Chicago area, he has always claimed Carlinville as his home town. In 1982, Steve and his parents, John & Inge moved to Carlinville. Steve graduated from Carlinville High School in 1988. Then in 1992, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Ministry from Central Bible College (Evangel University) in Springfield, MO.

In the fall of 1992, Steve helped plant and pastor Metro Assembly of God, an inner-city church in Des Moines. There he met and married his wife, Michelle. Michelle grew up in St. Peters, Missouri and graduated from Drake University. Steve and Michelle lived and ministered together in Des Moines for over eight years. Steve was also the youth minister in Fairfield, Illinois for four years and served for over ten years as the associate pastor at Woodstock Assembly of God church in northern Illinois.

Steve and Michelle now have four children—Zachariah, Matthew, Julianna, and Michael. Steve is thrilled to be back in Carlinville and give his children the opportunity to grow up in this wonderful town. Steve enjoys backpacking, walleye fishing, eating walleye, kayaking, reading historical and military books, watching good movies, and cheering for his kids. Michelle enjoys being with her family as well, along with linguistics, gardening, hiking, and kayaking.

Our Vision:

Above all, to be known as people who value others, sacrificially serve, and love ALL people as Jesus did.

Our Mission:

One Purpose. One Passion. One Pulse. Our purpose is to connect with God and others. Our pulse is to serve and our passion is to share Christ.

We Value:

  • Biblical teaching and corporate worship as a means for every person to know who God is, and to connect with Him directly. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Psalm 149:1)

  • Prayer as a means through which we communicate with God, and experience an empowered faith filled life. (Philippians 4:6-7, Ephesians 1:19)

  • Outreach as a vital priority to the health of our church. (Mark 16:15,Romans 10:14-15, Acts 20:35)

  • Discipleship as a command given to the church, so that each person is equipped to live the life God has planned for him/her. (Matthew 28:19-20)

  • Personal relationships with God and with each other; beyond Sunday mornings as a necessary connection point for: evangelism; discipleship; and leadership development. (Mark 12:30-31, John 15:12-13)

Carlinville First

Our Sunday 10:00 am meetings typically open with both contemporary and traditional songs. When the people of God gather in worship, God is active. Together we passionately exalt and glorify God with singing, music, prayer, the reading of God’s Word, creative arts, and communion. Then in this atmosphere of united worship, the Holy Spirit communicates the manifest presence of God. The Holy Spirit also uses us in the orderly exercise of spiritual gifts. Our church is one big family that is multi-cultural and multi-generational. Each generation and every stage of life belongs and is valued. Because life-change happens best in the context of authentic friendships, all are welcomed and loved at our church family. Sunday meetings also include Biblical and practical messages that are encouraging, challenging and hope-filled.
